Baku - Angola's ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abílio, on Wednesday in Baku, Azerbaijan, highlighted the efforts of the Angolan government for the energy transition and reduction of greenhouse gases.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the COP29 High-Level Summit, the diplomat highlighted the implementation of photovoltaic parks in the country, which contributes to the reduction of fossil energy consumption.
'These efforts are a signal for other countries to also follow the same path, in order to reduce global warming to 1.5 degrees,' he stressed.
According to Sianga Abílio, Angola is a vulnerable country, in terms of climate and climate change, especially in the south, plagued by desertification and floods.
He said that, in recent years, the Angolan authorities have developed capacities that help combat deforestation and safeguard wildlife, finding solutions for forest management.
He also said that the country can take advantage of Kenya's experience in the agriculture sector and the tourism industry, which contributes to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
'Kenya and Angola have almost the same GDP, of about US$110 billion. Therefore, we have some points of convergence to be able to cooperate,' concluded the Angolan diplomat. FMA/SC/DOJ
