Ondjiva - The participation of women in the national liberation struggle and in the achievement of national independence on November 11, 1975 was praised on Saturday in the province of Cunene by nationalist Albertina Teresa José.
Speaking at the colloquium that marked the end of the Women's March, Albertina José said that since the beginning of the struggle, women, side by side with men, have demonstrated an unparalleled capacity for resistance and courage, playing a leading role in the construction of a free and sovereign country.
The nationalist stressed that the participation of women was crucial in achieving national sovereignty and peace, as fighters, mobilizers and breadwinners of families.
Albertina José highlighted the fundamental role played by personalities such as Deolinda Rodrigues, Irene Cohen, Lucrécia Paim and Engrácia dos Santos, who acted as fighters, nurses and political organizers to help the country achieve development.
She said that these achievements were due to the courage of Queen Nginga Mbande and Nhakatolo, who were considered strong and determined women in the fight for culture and in the defense of their people.
Under the theme "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment", the colloquium was attended by members of the Government, the Consul of Namibia in Angola, political and religious women, academics and others.FI/LHE/SEC/AMP
