Moçâmedes – A total of 556 patients with a positive diagnosis of HIV/AIDS were registered in the five municipalities of the Province of Namibe, in the first half of the current year, in 35,846 tests carried out, 84 less compared to the same previous period.
Speaking to ANGOP, the supervisor of the AIDS program, Manuel Venâncio highlighted that, of the reported number, 414 cases of HIV/AIDS are women, of which 114 are pregnant women and 34 are children.
In the same period, 9 deaths caused by HIV/AIDS were reported, of which three were children, compared to 18 in the same previous period.
Of the 556 new cases registered, 450 people were included in the antiretroviral treatment monitoring program, which represents 80%.
Manuel Venâncio highlighted that, during the semester, 73 women with HIV/AIDS gave birth within the mother-to-child disease prevention program.
He regretted the abandonment of 220 patients who were undergoing antiretroviral treatment, citing insufficient communication with patients and constant moves to other hospital centers as factors.
In the same period, community campaigns were carried out that benefited 40 thousand citizens with health education sections, distribution of more than 20 thousand condoms, voluntary testing campaigns, training in places of service and in school institutions.
