In the men's quarter-finals on Thursday, Angola's Nkunga Vakanda, in the 56 kg category, qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Giovanni Rivadeneyra (Mexico) and Milfa Nicolau, in the 88 kg, giving Ali Musa Kulov (Kazakhstan) no chance.

In the other quarter-final, in the women's category, Esperança Pereira defeated Norway's Marie Paulsen in the 56.7kg category.

Due to the score, Angola benefited from the direct qualification to the semi-finals by Maria Liberal (70.3 kg), Jeorgina Ludmila, Linara Costa and Ana Fernanda (79.4 kg).
