Ondjiva - Patients with kidney failure who lived in Lubango city, central Huíla, returned to Cunene on Wednesday to continue their medical treatment at the hemodialysis center of the General Hospital.
These are seven patients who will undergo dialysis in the hemodialysis center with a capacity to accommodate 12 patients, whose services are being provided by two doctors and 10 nurses.
Speaking to ANGOP, patient Filipe Kanyanaga, 34, said he suffers from kidney failure since 2013, and went to Luanda province to undergo treatment at the Main Military Hospital.
With the opening of this service in Huíla, he moved to Lubango in 2019, experiencing many financial difficulties in order to pay for rent, food and transportation.
He added that 11 years later, he is returning to Cunene province to continue his dialysis treatment, having praised the Angolan government's investment in the health sector.
For his part, João Baptista, 51, was also happy to undergo the treatment at home and with his family, pointing out that for seven years he has had various difficulties in keeping his health stable.
The patient said he was chronically hypertensive and that during a consultation in Huíla he was diagnosed with high urea levels and transferred to Benguela, where he began dialysis treatment.
The opening of this specialized service in Cunene is of great value to the local population, who will no longer have to pay additional costs and, above all, will be close to their families, according to the patient.
The new hospital will provide various services such as pediatrics, obstetrics, endoscopy, biology, ophthalmology, stomatology, emergency, surgery, X-rays, CT scans and psychiatry.
With 26 blocks, it will have four inpatient units, the same number of operating theaters, a hemodialysis unit with 12 chairs, a blood bank, psychiatric inpatient units, endoscopy, biology and eight residences for doctors.
The hospital, built on an area of 60,000 square meters over three years from May 2021, is located in Ondjiva city, and was budgeted at 52 million euros.
