Luanda - The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, discussed on Wednesday, in Luanda, with the Namibian minister of Education, Art and Culture, Anna Nghicandoka, issues linked to cooperation between the two states in these areas.
Speaking to the press, at the end of an audience granted by the Vice-President of the Republic, the Namibian official stressed that issues linked to the transformation of education and the identification of sectors in which cooperation could be increased were reviewed, such as culture and arts.
Ms Nghicandoka explained that the move is intended to stmiluate employment and contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of both countries.
In this sense, the Namibian government official said that the intention is to create a technical monitoring team to materialize everything that was dealt with, identifying possible areas with a view to signing a memorandum of understanding.
For this reason, she thanked the support provided by the Angolan Vice-President and her endorsement so that the two countries can continue in this direction.
On the occasion, the Angolan minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, said that the Vice-President encouraged the creation of a memorandum of understanding with Namibia in the area of education, at the border level, due to the fact that there are many children attending schools in that country.
For this reason, the minister stressed the need for work teams to begin their activity to approach the teaching of culture and art.
Likewise, she announced that a second group will work in the field of curricular transformation, aiming for the current cooperation.
According to the minister, it is expected that, by the end of the year, the memorandum will be completed for signature.
The official also said that the Vice-President encouraged the inclusion of the English language in primary education and, to this end, “we will cooperate with Namibia to train teachers in this regard”.
“Namibia is open to teacher training so that the transformation of education can be enhanced, with a view to a more resilient education system”, she highlighted.
In turn, the minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, said that the meeting served to evaluate bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and arts, as well as training.
In this sense, he highlighted that both countries can develop the issue of artistic training, which is an area of common interest.
Also regarding cooperation in this field, he announced her intention to create a National Orchestra, especially when the Palace of Culture and Arts is completed, counting on Namibian support for this purpose.
Among other projects, at the sector’s level, he referred to “Consultation about the African languages of Angola”, in order to protect them so that they do not disappear.
