Luanda – Angolan President, João Lourenço, praised the results of the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), held in Luanda.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, President João Lourenço, who was speaking as Acting Chair of the OACPS, said the meeting approved the Luanda Declaration, which will guide the organization's action for Angola’s three-year term.
The Angolan Head of State said the meeting also approved the report of the Council of Ministers, having advanced that the 11th Summit of the organization will be held in one of the member countries to be indicated on the basis of consultations.
On the occasion, the Executive Secretary of the OACPS, George Chikoti, said that the Heads of State reaffirmed their engagement in the creation of mechanisms to face, among others, challenges such as the financial and food crises, the latter aggravated by the war in Ukraine.
George Chikoti said he believes that Angola, through ideas and initiatives, can contribute so that the member-states of the OACPS face with success the current challenges, which include the resolution of conflicts in the African continent.
George Chikoti said the Luanda Summit strengthened unity and solidarity among member states.
The Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific State (OACPS), formerly known as the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), is an organization created by the Georgetown Agreement (in Guyana) in 1975.
It is composed of 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific states, with all of them, except Cuba, signatories to the Cotonou Agreement (Benin), also known as the "ACP-EC Partnership Agreement", which links them to the European Union.
The organization aggregates 48 countries from Sub-Saharan Africa, 16 from the Caribbean and 15 from the Pacific, for a total of 79 states.
The main objective of the OACPS is to promote the sustainable development of the member states and their gradual integration in the global economy.
The OACPS proposes to reduce poverty levels, as a priority, and to establish a new, and more just and equitable world order.
The OACPS also aims at consolidating unity and solidarity among member states and consolidating peace and stability in a free and democratic society.
