Luanda – The Chief Judge of the Senegalese Court of Audits, Mamadou Faye, highlighted the facilities of the new international airport hoping that the infrastructure will contribute to the development of the economy and facilitate the free movement of people and goods.

Mamadou Faye - who carries out a five-day working visit to Angola in his capacity as chairman of the African branch of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI), from 12 to 16 of the current month - also hopes that the new airport will boost the progress of relations between Angola and Senegal in several areas.

Talking to the press at the end of the visit to the new airport, Mamadou Faye said that the place and size demonstrates the importance that Angola gives to the infrastructure.

To him, this airport will be among the four largest in Africa and it might reach the figure of 15 million passengers yearly.

In his visit to the airport, judge Mamadou Faye was accompanied by the Angolan Audit Court Chief, Exalgina Gambôa, who said that “it (the new airport) is a major work and a business card for Angola and Angolans as well as an open door for the country's growth, in several aspects”.

She stressed that the visit is part of the Audit Court’s competences, which aims to assess if the revenues allocated for this expense are being well used and meeting expectations, according to the contracts.

In technical terms, the Director of the Technical Services of the Court of Auditors, José Carlos Neto, reiterated that it´s the Angolan Audit Court’s competence to supervise the contracts signed by the Executive above a certain value, and so the visit served to verify the degree of contract compliance, in terms of physical and financial execution, considered compatible.

The new International Airport of Luanda, which is situated at Bom Jesus district of Icolo e Bengo Municipality, has four lanes, in which two are ready for landings of large and small aircraft.

Placed in a area of 1,324 acres, the airport will provide different services as hotel, railway transport, General Tax Administration (AGT), Civil Protection and Fire Service, as well as a car park with the capacity of 1,000 vehicles.

According to available data, the airport will handle a volume of goods of 50,000 tonnes per year and is designed to receive B747 and A380 aircraft, which is the major commercial aircraft currently.

The New Luanda “Dr. António Agostinho Neto” International Airport, built to adapt to new times in the civil aviation sector, is due to start operating in 2023.
