Luanda - Thousands of MPLA party supporters marched Saturday from Sant'Ana Cemetery to Largo das Escolas square, to salute to the party's 68th anniversary, which is marked on 10th December.
The activity was led by the first secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, Luís Nunes, who, in his speech, said that his party does not work for electoral moments, but for the sustainable development of the people.
This is in order to build a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive society, he said.
He explained that the current moment was challenging, stressing that it requires a renewed political will, in which the measures needed to stabilise and clean up the economy might not be immediately accepted by the population.
He also said that the party's mission is limited to facing and resolving the real challenges for the well-being of the population of Luanda.
Luís Nunes, recently elected first secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, emphasised that he will tackle the real problems with concrete actions, stressing that he will not limit himself to speeches or promises without substance.
He added that the mission will be to turn ideas into tangible actions, in the areas of health, housing, education, energy and water, social inclusion, among others.
In turn, the secretary-general of the OMA (the party’s female wing), Joana Tomás, said that the MPLA has been constantly renewing itself over the past 68 years in order to adapt to reality.
She emphasised that the party's militants are closing ranks around their leader, who is focused not only on economic diplomacy, but also on the social development of Angolans.
The MPLA's secretary for mobilisation and insertion into society, Gonçalves Muandumba, said that the party's 68th anniversary would be celebrated in all the country's communes, districts and municipalities.
For the politician, the time his party has existed represents hard work for the well-being of the Angolan people, embodied in struggles, victories, challenges and resilience.
The MPLA was founded on 10th December 1956.
