Luanda - The Enhanced Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism (MVA-R) for peace in eastern DRC was launched on Tuesday in the region of Goma, North Kivu province, in an act witnessed by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
The event was also attended by Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda.
The Mechanism aims to strengthen peacemaking efforts in the eastern DRC region and promote stability and security through rigorous and integrated monitoring.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General Nassone João, Head of the Enhanced Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism, highlighted the importance of Angola's role as a mediator in this process.
He said that the MVA-R has been reinforced with Angolan experts, as well as liaison experts from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, and is prepared to monitor the implementation of the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) guidelines, with the aim of ensuring compliance with the agreed security measures.
Nassone João recalled the commitment of the Angolan President, João Lourenço, to the pacification of the Great Lakes region, stressing that this effort represents a response to the aspirations for peace and socio-economic development of the peoples of the region.
Angolan Mediation has been an essential pillar to promote cooperation between the countries involved, in line with the objectives of the African Union and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
The Enhanced Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism has been supported by international organisations such as the UN and SADC, through the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and the Southern African Development Community Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (SAMIRDC), which reinforces expectations that the mechanism will play a key role in building lasting peace in the region.
Lieutenant General Nassone João also reiterated the determination of the Officers, Sergeants and Enlisted Men of the Reinforced Ad-Hoc Verification Mechanism to faithfully fulfill the assigned mission, always guided by the ideals of fraternity and cooperation among peoples.
