Luanda - The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on Tuesday congratulated the Tswanese politician Duma Gideon Boko for his election to the position of President of the Republic of Botswana, in the elections of October 30.
In a message sent to his counterpart, the President says he is sure that 'the important victory achieved by the politician in the recent elections reflects the confidence that the citizens of Botswana place in his political project and the belief that, through his leadership, they will be able to strengthen the achievement of the most relevant economic and social development objectives desired by the Tswanese'.
“it is my great expectation to start working with the President-elect, in order to increase and consolidate the existing cooperation between our two countries, in order to promote the implementation of actions of a fruitful exchange at all levels”, João Lourenço says in the letter.
Bilateral cooperation
Political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Botswana were established on February 18, 1976.
In February 2006 they signed a General Cooperation Agreement in the fields of agriculture, energy and water, industry, commerce, hotels and tourism, geology and mining, environment, land administration, technical and vocational training, petroleum, telecommunications and business cooperation
In 2023, President João Lourenço paid a visit to Botswana, during which the parties strengthened bilateral cooperation, with a focus on the diamonds, agriculture, education, health and environment sectors.
The two countries are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union (AU), and have maintained contacts at the highest level on issues related to peace, stability and security in the region. ART/DOJ
