Luanda - Angolan diplomat Azevedo Xavier Francisco on Tuesday, in Montevideo, presented his credentials to the President of Uruguay, Luís Lacalle Pou.

The ceremony took place at the Estévez Palace, headquarters of the Uruguayan Executive Branch, and was marked by solemnity and cordiality.

The event was attended by the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Albertoni, and the Secretary of the Presidency, Rodrigo Ferrés.

During the event, the Angolan diplomat transmitted a message from the Angolan President, João Lourenço, addressing the challenges and expectations of the new Angola.

The strengthening of bilateral relations between the two states has been a priority for both countries.

In May 2024, Montevideo hosted the 3rd Meeting of the Political Consultation Mechanism, where concrete actions for cooperation in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, farming, pharmaceutical industry, agribusiness, manufacturing industry and trade were discussed.

Still in 2024, a delegation from the Angolan Foreign Ministry, led by ambassador Felisberto Martins, in charge of the Americas department, made an official visit to Montevideo at the invitation of local authorities, which reinforced dialogue and collaboration between the two countries.

Political and diplomatic relations between Angola and Uruguay were made official on May 26, 1988 and to date have been marked by friendship, common respect, as well as the search for cooperation in areas of common interest.
