Luanda - The joint report on the law creating the commemorative medal for the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence was approved in general by the deputies of the 1st and 2nd Special Committees with 24 votes in favor, zero against and no abstentions.

It stipulates that national and foreign citizens, living or deceased, who have made a significant contribution to the achievement of national independence, will be awarded commemorative medals as part of the 50th anniversary of Angola's independence, to be celebrated on November 11.

The medals will be awarded in three different classes: the honorary class, to be awarded to Heads of State and Government and other signatories who played a significant role in the process of National Independence.

For the second class, the Independence and Peace Medal was chosen to recognize the achievements of the various sectors of society that contributed to independence and the conquest of peace.

For the third class, the Development Medal was chosen to recognize all the segments of society that have contributed in different ways to Angola's achievements during these 50 years of independence.

According to deputy João Guerra, it is necessary to go back in time and history to talk about all those who walked the regions on the military fronts, without looking at the party colors.

"The important thing is that everyone contributed so that today we can be independent and sovereign in the destiny of the country," he stressed.

Guerra called for the commemorations, the distribution of medals and the recognition of those who fought for independence not to be limited to high-ranking officers, stressing that the characteristics of the medals and the criteria will be discussed in detail in the specialty, but that he hopes it will include everyone who contributed to Angola's independence.

The Secretary of State for Justice, Osvaldo Amaro, on his turn, expressed gratitude for the fact that it the draft is better suited to the need to continue finding solutions to rationalize public spending.MGM/VIC/DAN/AMP
