Luanda – National Assembly specialized committees approved Thursday, in Luanda, the Joint Opinion Report, in general, of the draft Political-Administrative Division (DPA).
The Joint Opinion Report, which will be discussed and approved in general at the next plenary session, was accepted with 48 votes in favor and 14 against.
After its admissibility in the relevant committees, the conditions are in place for the government to present the draft to the Plenary of the National Assembly.
MP Reis Júnior, chairman of the National Assembly's Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, said he foresees a heated debate in general, "which will reveal our interest in our nation".
The draft law on Political-Administrative Division aims to promote a balanced development of the territory to bring public services closer to citizens to guarantee the integral occupation of the territory and rationalize the services of the state administration, increasing their effectiveness, efficiency and equity.
The initiative includes the creation of two new provinces which will result from the division of eastern Moxico province (there will now be two: Moxico and Cassai-Zambeze) and Cuando Cubango (there will now be two: Cuando and Cubango provinces).
If approved, Angola's new Political-Administrative Division will consist of 20 provinces, 325 municipalities and 375 communes.
From an economic and social point of view, this envisages a number of benefits, such as reducing inequalities and poverty rates among the population.
It also envisages a fairer and more balanced distribution of territory and national income, harmonious economic and social development of the country, promotion of well-being, social solidarity and the quality of life of the most vulnerable populations.DC/VIC/DAN/AMP
