Libreville - The Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) has called for the implementation of the Peace and Security Council of the region.
he appeal was launched by the president of ECCAS Commission Gilberto Veríssimo on Saturday in Libreville, Gabon, adding that the move is meant to strengthen political cooperation and security of member countries.
Gilberto Veríssimo was speaking during the XXIII ECCAS' Summit, also attended by the Angolan President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
He said that the ministers and ambassadors who are members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives defended the implementation of the Central African Peace and Security Council.
In his speech, the President of the Commission said that it was necessary to ensure regional integration based on good governance.
He noted that work was being carried out on the Medium-Term Indicative Strategic Plan (2021-2022), concerning the ongoing reforms in that body, namely the adoption of regulations provided for in the fundamental texts to reinforce the credibility of the organisation on the Member States.
He recalled that, from April to June of this year, the Commission organised several sector statutory meetings to analyse and validate draft normative texts, with a view to strengthening, more and more, the functioning of the regional organisation.
The ECCAS Conference of Heads of State and Government took stock of the political and security situation in Central Africa and reviewed the state of contributions made by this regional community.
Ambassador Gilberto Veríssimo was confirmed ECCAS's president during the 17th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the regional organisation in 2020 and will Head the ECCAS Commission for five years, in a non-renewable term. DC/AL/ADR/CF/NIC
