Ndalatando - The increase in the price of commercial coffee, whose kilogram has gone from 500 to 1,000 kwanzas, is motivating the production and recovery of coffee plantations in the province of Cuanza-Norte.
Many peasants, associations and cooperatives are also betting on the production of this commodity, as a result of the increase in the price of coffee cherry, whose kilogram was traded between 100 and 200 kwanzas, rising to 700 to a thousand today, varying by location.
Speaking to ANGOP on Friday, the head of the provincial department of the Coffee Institute (INCA), Cesaltina Domingos, said that, although the price is not yet desirable for coffee growers, it is causing an increase in production and the recovery of many farms.
The institution estimates that more than a thousand peasants are betting on coffee production, as opposed to the 634 registered in the institution's database initially.
She informed, for example, that last week he received a list of 500 coffee growers from the municipality of Quiculungo alone.
She justified that the price increase is due to demand, as there are now more and more Angolan and foreign citizens interested in this product for consumption and commercialization.
To respond to this 'new era' in coffee production, he said, the institute is working on a project for vegetative and regenerative multiplication of coffee.
The project is underway at the Quilombo Scientific Research Center and in the municipality of Golungo Alto, where the institution and partners have prepared a greenhouse for the multiplication of more than 50 thousand plants.
In the Quilombo, he continued, another 40 rooters are being set up for the vegetative production of seedlings.
She said that the project will also cover the municipalities of Quiculungo and Bolongongo and aims to distribute seedlings to encourage production.
Some coffee growers in the municipality of Golungo Alto confirmed that now the trend is for coffee farms to recover, because of the price increase.
According to David Zua, from the INCA Technical Brigade, 301 coffee farms are currently registered in the municipality of Golungo Alto, of which 221 are in production.
He informed that many producers, especially of Chinese nationality, seek the institution, something that did not happen before.
He said that INCA has good prospects for the relaunch of coffee production in the province, in addition to the opening of the bank for financing. IMA/YD/DOJ
