Luanda - The Republic of Angola reaffirmed Friday in Addis Abbeba (Ethiopia) the need to engage youth in the promotion of a culture of peace, with the creation of policies and programs for their empowerment.
The position was expressed by the Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Miguel Bembe, during the meeting of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the continental organization, dedicated to the implementation of the agenda related to youth, peace and security in Africa.
He indicated other initiatives such as the Pan-African Forum for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence-Luanda Biennial, whose fourth edition is scheduled for 2025.
The country also recommended the evaluation of continental, regional and national commitments to include youth in the construction and maintenance of peace and security in African States and the analysis of the United Nations methodology used to recognize the importance of youth leadership in processes of promoting peace and countering violent extremism.
The Angolan diplomat suggested the adoption of good practices to strengthen and consolidate the full participation of youth in the prevention of violence, in the maintenance of peace and security in Africa, through dialogue, entrepreneurship and innovation.
He pointed out that a new, more inclusive, integrated and sustainable approach to youth in the discussion of peace and security should be based on their knowledge and perspectives, as well as their potential contributions to solving complex peace and security problems.
Today's meeting of the PSC marked the beginning of the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of this strategic body of the AU for the month of November. SC/DOJ
