Luanda – President João Lourenço has sent a message to King Filipe VI of Spain expressing his sorrow for the human and material losses caused by the rains that recently hit the Valencia region.
In a message made public on the Presidency of the Republic's Facebook page, the Angolan Head of State expressed his sorrow at the large number of deaths and injuries that occurred as a result of the floods caused by the heavy rains on October 29.
“On behalf of the Angolan Executive and in my own name, in the face of this terrible event, I offer Your Majesty and the families of the victims my unfailing solidarity and heartfelt condolences at this difficult time for the people of the community of Valencia,” said President João Lourenço.
The president concluded by expressing his sympathy and friendship to King Filipe VI.
More than a hundred fatalities have already been recorded due to the bad weather in various regions of Spain, which have been under the influence of an “isolated depression" at high levels since Tuesday, a meteorological phenomenon known as DANA.
The phenomenon has caused torrential rain and storms in various parts of Spain, especially on the Mediterranean coast.
The worst affected region was the Valencian Community, in the east of the country, with unprecedented levels of rainfall, which triggered the most serious civil protection and meteorological alerts and warnings on Tuesday night.
This is one of the most serious natural disasters in Spain in the last 75 years, surpassing even the floods in Biescas (Huesca) in 1996, with 87 deaths, and the floods in Turia in 1957, in which between 80 and 100 people died.ART/TED/AMP
