Luanda - Relations between Angola and the Federative Republic of Brazil will remain steadfast, despite the recent episodes involving the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (IURD) in the country.
Speaking to ANGOP on Wednesday, a source close to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), described the incident as merely a hiccup".
The Angolan diplomatic source said he believed that the authorities of the two States would be able to overcome this situation, through their own channels for this purpose.
According to the source, there are much more powerful and positive reasons in the relations between the countries than this mere hiccup, recalling that the strong ties of blood, culture, friendship, fraternity and cooperation forged throughout history must not be forgotten.
These ties, the source added, "prevent the taking of any emotional and hasty decision, which could jeopardize the reciprocal interests of the two states, which since 1975 have always guided their relations based on mutual respect and mutually advantageous interest".
The source also revealed that the Republic of Angola will be willing, if necessary, to send a delegation to Brasilia, in order to clarify the situation with the Brazilian authorities and, jointly, study the ways to deepen and consolidate relations between the countries.
He stressed, however, that Angola is a democratic state based on the rule of law and, in respecting for the separation of powers, political authorities, the country should not intervene or influence the ongoing legal proceedings against members of the IURD, accused of financial and moral crimes in Angola.
