Luanda – National Union of Higher Education Professors (SINPES) on Tuesday decided to suspend the strike in the sector, for a 30-day period.
The suspension was announced by the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Eugénio da Silva, who stated that decision aims to ensure back to school in public higher education institutions to comply with the academic calendar.
The SINPES convened the strike in January in demand of holding of elections in the higher education institutions, review of the wage bill.
Also demanded reinstatement of subsidies, health insurance, improvement of infrastructures and the Scientific Investment Fund for organic units and public and private universities, regularisation of public debt, the exceptional administrative probation process and progressive training of professors.
In reaction to the suspension of the strike, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Information Technology has directed public higher education institutions to create a contingency plan to reduce the effects left by the strike.
