Luanda – The agronomist Isidro de Carvalho said on Tuesday, in Luanda, that the difficulty in accessing credit, arable land and the scarcity of rural infrastructure are among the main factors that hinder the development of agriculture in the country.
Speaking to ANGOP, on the sidelines of the first edition of the “Agro among young people” forum, he defended the need for commercial banks to increasingly finance the agriculture sector, as around 70% of the country's land is arable and little explored.
He also pointed out access and prices of inputs, rural infrastructure and the degradation of the road network as aspects of constraints on the development of agriculture.
"These factors make agriculture unattractive to young generation. This segment of society could boost the sector and obtain immediate results", he highlighted.
Speaker Marcelino Pedro, who addressed the topic of irrigation, considered it essential to include more technology in the agricultural sector for better agricultural performance.
The agronomist also said that the results of the agricultural campaigns have to do, in large part, with the quality of the seeds available on the Angolan market.
In turn, peasant Josemar Jungo said he faced difficulties related to access to fertilizers, seeds and the outlet market.
He mentioned that seeds are very expensive and when there are products they cannot be sold to other provinces.
The director of the company Imagem do Futuro, organizer of the event, Márcio Massoxi, said that the objective is to “bring a stimulus to increasingly include young people in agriculture in the country”.
Agriculture, he considered, is a very broad sector as it encompasses areas such as mechanics, electronics, among others, which can serve to attract a large part of young generation.
