Uíge – At least 35,000 people living in the municipality of Maquela do Zombo, Province of Uíge, will benefit from drinking water by the end of this year, with the new collection, treatment and distribution system coming into operation.
With the capacity to pump 160 cubic meters/hour, the infrastructure will have a distribution network made up of 1,907 household connections, 115 fountains and a four-million-liter water tank.
With a physical completion of 94%, construction work on the new Maquela do Zombo system, carried out by the Chinese company Guanxi Hydroelectric Construction Bureau, began in 2012 and in 2023 was transferred to Integrated Plan for Intervention in the Municipalities (PIIM).
Speaking to ANGOP, on Monday, the municipal administrator of Maquela do Zombo, Samalando Muginga, said that the works are progressing normally, despite delays in their execution, resulting from financial problems.
He informed that work is underway to install laboratory equipment and other resources.
The municipality of Maquela do Zombo, which is 310 kilometers from the city of Uíge, has an estimated population of 122,320 inhabitants. NM/MRA/DOJ
