Saurimo - The Angolan government will continue to implement actions to grant young people access to technical and vocational training, with the aim to strengthen their integration into the labor market.
The statement was made Thursday, in Saurimo eastern Lunda Sul province by the head of the National Department for Employment and Vocational Training of the Ministry of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), Camitondo Manuel, during the public consultation on the ‘Project for Employment and Opportunities for Young People’.
According to Manuel, in recent years the government implemented short-, medium- and long-term projects that meet the different aspirations and expectations of young Angolans.
He added that the Youth Employment and Opportunities Project is a strategic initiative of the government funded by the World Bank, which will allow around 500,000 young people aged between 16 and 35 to be trained in various specialties.
He explained that of the 500,000 young people across the country, 38 per cent will be women and 6 percent with disabilities.
Budgeted at 250 million US dollars, the project is expected to strengthen the socio-economic inclusion of young people.
During the public consultation, the young people of Lunda-Sul suggested the implementation of courses linked to agronomy, mining, construction and technology.
To be implemented throughout the country in the four-year period 2025/2029, the initiative aims to promote the inclusion of young women in technical and vocational training in order to improve their income and strengthen the National Vocational Training System by building and upgrading the country's training centers.
In the first phase, the project will cover 11 provinces, namely Luanda, Benguela, Cunene, Huíla, Malanje, Bié, Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul, Cuanza-Norte and Cabinda. JW/HD/DAN/AMP
