Luanda - Angola successfully carried out, on Tuesday, the first robotic surgery at the Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Cardio Pulmonary Diseases Hospital, in Luanda.
Lasting 1h30, the surgery was carried out by a team led by American oncology urologist Vitul Patel.
Speaking to the press, the general director of the hospital unit, Carlos Alberto Masseca, stated that carrying out the surgery constitutes a historic milestone for the National Health System and increases the responsibility of the Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Hospital.
“The surgery went well. The patient has already left the operating room and held a conversation with the doctors. Beforehand, there was a preparation process and interaction between the Angolan and North American teams, which made it possible to have the patient in good condition so that the procedure could go smoothly”, he highlighted.
For her part, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, said that robotic surgery will be extended to other specialties.
“The surgical robot, made available to the National Health Service, joins other means for better provision of healthcare. Therefore, in the near future, robotic, general, thoracic, neurosurgery and orthopedic gynecological surgery will be carried out”, stated the minister.
She recalled that the Executive has invested in infrastructure, equipment and human capital, for the benefit of the population.
