Luanda – The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, on Monday manifested the opinion that the country’s Amputee Football Squad represented Angola well, thus becoming an example to be followed by all the citizens.
“We are all going to learn with you how to overcome obstacles that each of us can face in life”, said the Angolan President, alluding to the team’s winning the silver medal at the World Cup of the category held in Turkey.
These words of encouragement were expressed by President Lourenço during an audience he granted to the members of the country’s Amputee Football Squad, including the technical team.
During the World Cup Angola beat Uruguay (4-0), Iraq (4-1), Italy (7-0), England (1-0), Tanzania (4-1), Brazil (2-1) and Haiti (4-2), losing only to the host team (1-4), Turkey.
Angola, who reached the final for the third time, were the defending champions.
The Angolan Head of State called on the Angolan citizens to value such example of overcoming challenges through persistence and some sacrifice.
“You do not win just once in life”, said the president, adding that “We need to win every minute, every hour and everyday of our lives”.
On the occasion, João Lourenço informed that the country is about to win a Training Centre for Paralympic Sports, whose construction should be concluded in two years’ time, in Bengo Province.
The Amputee Football Team returned to the country on Wednesday (12 Oct.). The team have been getting several homages for their World Cup feat.
