Luanda - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Thursday in Luanda expressed his country's willingness to cooperate with Angola in the space field to guarantee food security and reduce the negative impact of climate change.
The US top diplomat made the statement during a visit to the Luanda Science Centre (CCL), adding that under the Artemis Agreement, Angola has become the third US partner in Africa for peaceful use of space.
Mr. Blinken added that The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is already working in Angola to gather information on the quality of the soil and water waste management to obtain data to improve seeds and strengthen food security.
Antony Blinken considered it essential for Africa to guarantee its food security in order to avoid negative impacts such as those resulting from the "Russian invasion of Ukraine".
The US Secretary of State praised the investment in the construction of the Luanda Science Centre (CCL), which he considered inspiring for younger generations.
Set in an area of 17,667 square metres, the CCL is a space dedicated to promoting science, technology and innovation located in the country's capital.
Inside the facility there is a planetarium, video mapping, a cinema room, a butterfly garden and a secular house.
The planetarium is a space for celestial projection, with projectors to explore the cosmos and the stars, while the video mapping (with 8 projectors) makes it possible to analyze themes such as Angolan reality, the human body, planets, fauna and flora, as well as experiments with soap bubbles and light refraction.JFS/VC/DAN/AMP
