Luanda – The president of East Timor, José Ramos Horta, arrived in Luanda on Sunday for a 72-hour state visit to Angola, as part of strengthening cooperation between both states.
At international airport 4 de Fevereiro, Ramos Horta received welcome greetings from the Angolan minister of foreign affairs, Téte António, and other individuals.
During his stay in Luanda, the Timorese president will hold talks with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, and will sign several cooperation agreements.
In brief statements to the press, he thanked the support provided by Angola during the struggle for East Timor's independence.
José Ramos Horta will also be received by the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, and will participate in a solemn session at the national assembly in his honor.
With 14,874 km2 of territorial extension, East Timor is one of the youngest countries in the world, and occupies the eastern part of the island of Timor, in Southeast Asia.
The country has an economy largely dependent on exports of some commodities, such as coffee, marble, oil and sandalwood. VIC/CF/DOJ
