Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço signed Thursday several cooperation protocols within the scope of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), including the fight against AIDS in the region by 2030.
The legal instruments, signed shortly before the closing of the 43rd Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, held in the Angolan capital, Luanda, point to the disease as a threat to public health within the community.
João Lourenço also signed the SADC protocol on employment and work.
The Angolan statesman, who took over the rotating presidency of the regional organisation on Thursday, signed the protocols on employment and work, on statistics, on tourism development and on the control of arms, ammunition and other related material.
The statesman also signed the protocols on facilitating the movement of people in the region and the intergovernmental memorandum of agreement between the SADC Member States for the creation of the center for humanitarian operations and responses to emergencies.
