Luanda - The Speaker of the National Assembly (AN) Carolina Cerqueira discussed Wednesday in Luanda with leader of Angola’s main opposition party UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior issues related to the challenges facing the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
Adalberto da Costa Júnior, as a member of the PAP, briefed Carolina Cerqueira about the situation that the African Union (AU) body is currently going through.
The complexity of the Pan-African Parliament requires its members to have a holistic vision and to be committed to the objectives of the regional organization.
Adalberto Costa Júnior spoke of the efforts being made to resolve the existing leadership crisis and rescue the values and principles that dictated the creation of the chamber.
UNITA ´s leader took the opportunity to ask the National Assembly Speaker to advocate the resumption of consultation and dialogue on issues of national interest between the political parties with parliamentary seats.
The Pan-African Parliament is the AU's legislative body inaugurated in March 2004 and is based in Midrand, South Africa.
Angola is represented by five MPs, three from the ruling MPLA party and two from UNITA main opposition party.
The Pan African Parliament was established by the African Heads of State in 2004 as the AU's Legislative Body, and includes five MPs from each of the Organization’s fifty-five member states.
The Parliament holds plenary sessions and meetings of the Specialized Committees, as well as carrying out other missions such as electoral observation.
