Lubango - The United Nations Organisation (UNO) has for the current year funding of USD 56.3 million to support the plan for a socio-economic response to Covid-19 and cooperation for sustainable development with Angola.
Of the total amount, USD 36.5 million is already available and the remainder is yet to be mobilised from partners, donors and other United Nations funds.
The funding, managed by the 12 UN agencies present in Angola, is directed at economic and social transformation, women's empowerment, environment and resilience of the vulnerable population, as well as democracy and stability.
Speaking to ANGOP Tuesday, the United Nations resident coordinator in Angola, Zahira Virani, said that the United Nations has a Global Fund project, where several agencies are working in an integrated way, to support the population directly with food, capacity building and resilience.
She reiterated the organisation's readiness to collaborate on socio-economic projects and programmes aimed at the well-being of the population in order to achieve the goals of the 2030 agenda.
