Luanda - The Cabinet Council, on Friday in Luanda, evaluated the bill that creates and classifies the Mussulo Peninsula, in Luanda Province, as a place of tourist interest.
The measure, according to the communiqué distributed at the end of the meeting chaired by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, takes into account the fact that tourism has the potential to establish itself as a sector of strategic importance for the Angolan economy, generating wealth and employment.
It adds that the Government's intention is to promote a better use and guarantee the development of tourism in a harmonious and integrated manner, preserving its characteristics in the best possible way and mitigating the negative effects of the impact resulting from the inevitable, but desirable, growth of tourism that is taking place there.
Mineral resources
With regard to the mineral resources, oil and gas sector, the 12th session of the Council of Ministers examined the draft Presidential Decree approving the Natural Gas Master Plan, which establishes the guidelines for the sustainable development of natural gas resources and their use in the domestic market.
The measure is expected to contribute to the energy transition and the diversification of the national economy, increasing the benefits to Angolan society and ensuring a return on investment.
The government adds that it believes that the implementation of the Natural Gas Master Plan, together with the intensification of Angola LNG's production and its full capacity on an ongoing basis, will make energy affordable and secure and create a solid foundation for industrialization through the participation of the country's financial system.
The measure aims to reduce the annual expenditure on imports of products such as chemical fertilizers, plastics, rubber, among others, through self-sufficiency and exports.
State security
The meeting also discussed the draft presidential decree providing the State Intelligence and Security Service with its own system of obligatory social protection. The measure will take into account the peculiarities of the State intelligence and security system and provide its employees with greater dignity in the performance of their duties to the State.
Instruments of cooperation
In this field, the Cabinet examined the draft resolution on the ratification of the International Coffee Agreement 2022 of the International Coffee Organization.
It also examined the draft resolution approving the Protocol on the Facilitation of the Movement of Persons in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as Angola's accession to the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules Relating to International Carriage by Air.
Also of note was the draft Presidential Decree approving the Agreement between the Government of Angola and the African Union on visa exemption for passports and laissez-passer and visa facilitation for ordinary passports for African Union personnel, their dependants, families and AU experts.
The government also analyzed the draft presidential decree approving the framework cooperation agreement between the government of Angola and Côte d'Ivoire, as well as the draft approval of the cooperation agreement between the two countries in the field of sports and culture.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Angolan Ministry of Tourism and its Cuban counterpart for cooperation in this field was also discussed.AFL/ART/DAN/AMP
