Caxito – The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, reaffirmed today, Friday, in the province of Bengo, the commitment to the sustainability, conservation and preservation of mangroves.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the mangrove plantation in Barra do Dande village, Bengo province, Esperança da Costa, explained that these ecosystems make a crucial contribution to mitigating climate change and allow for better climate regulation, as they are authentic sinks of carbon.
She said that mangroves allow communities to survive, which is why these important ecosystems must be managed more rationally, enjoying them today and leaving them for future generations.
Considered blue carbon, mangroves are tropical natural ecosystems, composed of plant species that tolerate salt water and are generally located in coastal areas. They arise from contact between the terrestrial and maritime environment and rivers
Mangroves adapt to salt water, filtering it and expelling the salt through their leaves and they play an important role in the preservation of various plant and animal species, in addition to helping with erosion, fixing the soil and preventing silting on the beaches. CJ/IF/DOJ
