Luanda – The Chairwoman of the Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO), Ms Eunice Ipinge praised on Wednesday the Angolan women by the fact that they are placed in important positions in the State apparatus.

The African leader expressed such appreciation to the press at the end of a meeting with the Angolan Parliament Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, in which they analyzed the role of the African organization to eradicate conflicts in Africa.

 

The Chairwoman of the Pan-African Women's Organisation expressed her satisfaction due to the fact that important bodies are being led by women, namely the National Assembly (parliament) by Carolina Cerceira and the Vice-Presidency of the Angolan Republic by Esperança da Costa, as well as Luísa Damião who is the Vice-President of the MPLA ruling party.

 

Women's Empowerment  

 

Eunice Ipinge revealed that with Carolina Cerqueira she also discussed issues linked to women's empowerment and the need to work towards a culture of peace on the continent.

 

To her it is necessary to raise the status of women through education, awareness, literacy and training.

 

The Chairwoman of the Pan African Women´s Organisation, added that women have political independence, but they need to empower economically and this is one of the impacts which must be taken to women in Africa.

 

At the meeting with Carolina Cerqueira, Ms Eunice Sipinge who is from Namibia, was accompanied by the PAWO regional secretary, the Angolan Luzia Inglês.

 

The Pan African Women's Organisation (PAWO) which was founded in 1962, has as its main aim the achievement of peace across the continent.
