Luanda - Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem presented this week his credentials to the Governor General of Canada, Mary Simon, which allow him to exercise the functions of a non-resident diplomatic representative in that country.
After the formalities, the Angolan diplomat presented a courtesy message to the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, in Ottawa and held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Global Affairs, Mélanie Joly.
Angola said it intends to resume with Canada the agenda related to the need to accelerate the agreement on the promotion and protection of foreign investments, considered crucial for the strengthening of bilateral economic relations.
It is an agreement that still awaits resolution, but it is an essential step to encourage reciprocal investments and promote greater economic dynamism between the two countries.
The partners also seek greater Canadian engagement and a visible presence in Angola, as concrete actions are needed to strengthen economic and political cooperation.
Angola's strategic vision includes positioning Canada as a relevant partner in the country and on the African continent, particularly in the areas of sustainable development and economic integration.
The southern African nation said it wants to explore partnerships in strategic sectors such as mining, agriculture and education. Although these areas have been identified as promising, Angola intends to find ways to effectively implement this cooperation.
Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem's visit to Canada sought to reaffirm Angola's commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with global strategic partners.
