Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, returned to the country on Thursday night, after a state visit to South Africa, at the invitation of his counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa.
Upon his arrival, in the company of the First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço, he received greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and other members of the Angolan State.
In South Africa, President João Lourenço held a meeting with his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa, after protocol honors at the 'Union Buildings' Palace.
The occasion served for talks between delegations from the two countries, which focused on strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy, defence, higher education, education, culture, youth and sports, among others.
Speaking at the opening of the official talks, President João Lourenço called on the parties involved in the post-electoral dispute in Mozambique to find the best ways to resolve it through dialogue.
On the other hand, he stressed that the Tripartite Summit between the presidents of Angola, DRC and Rwanda, next Sunday in Luanda, could dictate the signing or decision of a definitive peace agreement between these two neighbouring countries.
To this end, he noted the progress in the peace process in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), mediated by Angola.
During the visit, two agreements were signed in the fields of Higher Education and Culture, as well as serving as a moment to award the Angolan statesman with the 'Order of South Africa', the highest distinction of that country.
During the South Africa-Angola Business Forum, which was attended by about 100 businessmen from both nations, the Angolan President said that the two countries, as leading economies in the SADC region, have natural complementarities that can generate transformative impacts not only for both nations, but for the entire continent.
Therefore, he considered the event an opportunity to identify areas of common interest, trigger and strengthen economic and financial partnerships, reaffirming the determination to continue to strengthen historical ties and build a future of shared prosperity.
He invited South African businessmen to invest in Angola to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that the country offers. SC/DOJ
