Luanda - Turkish ambassador to Angola Alp Ay said Monday in Luanda that the fifth elections set to take place in the country on August 24 will boost the Angolan democratic process.
"We believe that the polls will boost Angola and the country will continue working toward the stability of the region," the diplomat told Angop in Luanda.
Alp Ay said elections are and will always be a key instrument for the people, since it represents the means by which citizens choose their leaders.
The diplomat said Angola and the Angolans have a very long tradition, but as a democratic country it is still new.
Alp Ay expressed his country's availability to support for Angola's efforts to strengthen its democracy, having expressed confidence in a result that will dictate the voice and the will of the Angolan people.
Both countries relations date back to 1980 and are supported by cooperation agreements in various areas.
Seven parties and one coalition of political parties are competing in the coming elections. They are MPLA, UNITA, PRS, CASA-CE, FNLA, PHA, P-JANGO and APN.
This year's elections, which will have the participation of the Angolans residing abroad for the first time, are the fifth in Angola's history, after those in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.
14.3 million voters, of whom 22,560 residing abroad, are expected to exercise their right to vote.
Overseas voting will take place in 12 countries and 25 cities, such as South Africa (Pretoria, Cape Town and Johannesburg), Namibia (Windhoek, Oshakati and Rundu) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (Kinshasa, Lubumbashi and Matadi).
