Luanda – Several Angolans and foreign entities paid homage, this Monday, to the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, with the signing of the condolence books opened in the 18 provinces of the country.
The former Head of State died last Friday in Spain at the age of 79, victim of an illness.
As part of the tributes, in Lunda Sul, Governor Daniel Neto highlighted the attainment of peace as one of the main achievements of the former Angolan President.
In Cabinda, the Book of Condolences was opened at Largo Nossa Senhora Rainha do Mundo and was attended, among others, by members of the provincial government, defense and security bodies, justice, religious entities and representatives of political parties and civil society.
The former president, according to Governor Marcos Nhunga, turned Angola into a real construction site, with the construction of satellite cities, schools, railways, roads, among other social and economic undertakings.
In Uíge, reference was made to the role played by José Eduardo dos Santos in the conquest of peace and the preservation of unity and reconciliation among Angolans.
The provincial governor, Carvalho da Rocha, also highlighted the role of the former statesman in consolidating the democratic rule of law in Angola.
In Namibe, Archer Mangueira, also provincial governor, considered José Eduardo dos Santos as a “patriot and humanist” who leaves a “great legacy” that everyone must keep.
