Luanda – National Assembly (parliament) Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, met Wednesday with African diplomats accredited to Angola, with whom she discussed the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the challenges Angolan legislators will face during the 5th Legislature.
During a "cocktail" held at the Palace of the National Assembly, the meeting also served to discuss issues related to sustainable development, combating poverty, climate issues, gender and African geopolitics, which is currently struggling with emerging and ongoing conflicts that could destabilize the continent.
The Angolan politician recognized that issues related to climate change are currently on the agenda of almost all countries in recent days, with the holding of the Cop27, taking place in Egypt.
The meeting was an initiative of the Gabonese ambassador accredited to Angola, Fui Blaise Wezet, who is also regional dean of Africa.
The Gabonese diplomat, who spoke on behalf of the African group, congratulated Carolina Cerqueira on her election as Speaker of the Angolan Parliament, "taking into account her political career and her skills”.
The diplomat also praised the Angolan president’s policy in making the promotion of Angolan women a top priority.
The meeting was attended by leaders of parliamentary groups and presidents of specialized working committees of the National Assembly, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior parliamentary members.
