Luanda – The Speaker of the National Assembly (Angolan parliament), Carolina Cerqueira, on Tuesday in Luanda stated that the admission of Angola as a full member of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie is a result of the dynamics of the Angolan parliament’s diplomacy.
Speaking to the press, Carolina Cerqueira informed that with this fact the National Assembly joins the parliaments of French-speaking countries, which will enable a sharing of common positions in favour of peace, co-operation and rapprochement among the French-speaking peoples.
She stressed that this move also shows the competence and quality of the National Assembly when seeking consensus or engaging in negotiations.
Carolina Cerqueira explained that Angola has common points with the Francophone countries in the framework of efforts turned to sustainable policies on development, climate change, social integration and regional development.
The Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie consists of representatives of 88 national and regional parliaments.
Among its main purposes are the promotion of democratic ideals and principles of the rule of law, fostering development and supporting mutual recognition of culture among the French-speaking countries as well as disseminating the French language. DC/SC/jmc
