Malanje – At least 433.602 pupils will attend general education classes in Malanje in the 2024/2025 school year, 3., 995 more than in the previous year, when 39.607 pupils were enrolled.
Of this number, 229.141 are in primary education, 63.043 in the first cycle of secondary education, 16,515 in the second cycle of secondary education, 30.021 in the second cycle of secondary and technical-vocational education, while 7,145 will study in the second cycle of pedagogical secondary education and 45.029 in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) program.
The figures were released Friday by the Malanje governor, Marcos Nhunga, at the opening of the 2024/2025 school year in the province, highlighting the inclusion of more than 7,000 new students in the education system.
The governor added that for this school term, the province has 4,460 classrooms, an increase of 85 on the previous year, while the number of teachers is 8,705, 455 hired in the last public tender.
Despite this growing trend, the governor acknowledged that the sector still faces huge challenges, with emphasis on the fight to reduce illiteracy, increase digital education and modernize school infrastructures and complete those underway, in order to respond to the projection of the province's student population.
