Huambo – Computer engineer Álvaro Tomás defended, on Friday, in Huambo, the need for young people to invest more in digital entrepreneurship, with a focus on increasing employability.

Speaking to the press, regarding World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, which is marked today, he said it is a path that young people, especially the unemployed, can use to find income and family support.

He mentioned that young people need to use the internet with an entrepreneurial vision and to do business, issuing content promoting various products that have financial returns, similar to what happens in other countries.

Álvaro Tomás said that it is already a reality in some provincial capitals of the country that there are young people who do business on the internet, through the sale of products, which needs to be encouraged by the Angolan Executive, through the reinforcement of investments in expanding the signal in all regions.

He pointed out that the Angolan Government's Online project has helped young people to have free access to the internet, which needs to be replicated throughout the country, taking into account the current needs of young people.

To this end, it hopes for more skills among young people in handling new information and communication technologies, through specific and short-term training, especially digital marketing that all entrepreneurs these days have been using.

In turn, the secretary of the Municipal Youth Council in Huambo, Manuel Meti, called on young people to contribute more to the country's development, via the internet, by opening businesses to promote products, instead of publishing and sharing content that does not add value to society.

He said that local young people are currently focused on agribusiness, as it is a sector with greater availability of financing lines, such as the Agrarian Development Fund (FADA) and the Youth Program to Support Internal Production (PROJAPROM) .

May 17th was chosen because it was on that day, in 1865, that the International Telegraphic Union was created and the first International Telegraphic Convention was signed. From 1932 onwards, this entity was renamed the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). ZZN/JSV/ALH/DOJ
