Luanda - Part of the logistical material for the General Census of Population and Housing 'Census 2024', which starts on September 19, is already in the country, with emphasis on tablets, and 500 vehicles should be made available soon to support the process.

According to the spokesperson for the 2024 Census, Hernâni Luís, who did not specify the amount of material, the devices, already configured, guarantee technological support in data collection.

As for the vehicles, he said they were of the 4x4 type, made available by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

He informed that a training of trainers is underway throughout the country aimed at 8,000 local technical assistants, who, as of the last week of this month, will transmit knowledge to 79,423 field agents.

Of this number, 67,131 are enumerators and 12,92 supervisors, who must ensure the census process in the 164 municipalities and 562 communes of the national territory.

The spokesman was speaking at the end of the 19th meeting of the Multisectoral Commission to Support the Census, having guaranteed the assurance of the event by personnel from the various specialties of the National Police.

The meeting was chaired by the general coordinator of the multisectoral commission, the Minister of State and head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado.

The Census is a United Nations recommendation that takes place over a period of ten years, with a view to cataloguing the dynamics of the population of countries and facilitating assertive decision-making in the public policies of Governments.

The 2024 Census was scheduled to start on the 19th of this month, but was postponed to September for logistical reasons.

This will be the second General Census of Population and Housing to be carried out in Angola, in the post-independence period, after the 2014 process, which found the existence of 25 million 789 thousand and 24 inhabitants in the country. OPF/VC/DOJ
