Huambo - The Archbishop of Huambo, Dom Zeferino Zeca Martins, defended, this Wednesday, the need for the Angolan Executive to invest, increasingly, in agricultural programs and industrialization of the country, to leverage sustainable development.
The Catholic archbishop made this statement at the opening of the VII edition of the Social Week, taking place from the 3rd to the 4th of this month, in the city of Huambo, under the motto 'Local Participation, Global Change', promoted by the local Archdiocese, in partnership with the Institute for Citizenship 'Mosaiko'.
On the occasion, he said that this program should be strengthened with the improvement and improvement of the education, health and basic sanitation sectors, including the transfer of knowledge at the different levels of human need (Know how), so that each Angolan can be able to contribute to the diversification of the economy.
The archbishop also considered it important to invest in technological knowledge, to stimulate the full functioning of industries and cultivate skills in this sector, to reduce external dependence and, consequently, increase the employability rate in various sectors.
He said that the diversification of the economy depends on the creation of public services in the sectors of education, health, support for the development of agriculture and industrialization, through the creation of necessary infrastructure conditions and the consolidation of the rehabilitation plan for secondary and tertiary roads.
The archbishop declared that the successive inflation rates caused by the constant devaluation of the national currency have caused negative impacts on the Angolan economy, hence it is essential to qualify the workforce and increase production levels in the different social and economic domains.
He recalled that one of the indicators that measures the level of stability of an economy is the inflation index, the lower it is, the better the positive effects in all aspects of social life, as it has a direct impact on the purchasing power of the currency and families achieve satisfactory incomes.
Dom Zeferino Zeca Martins called for the continuous inclusion of public monitory in the different tasks related to the implementation of sustainable development programs, in addition to the fight against social injustice, in the perspective of reducing poverty, misery and hunger.
He stressed that all efforts to diversify the economy must, in its process, be subject to the dignity of the human person, in an action that brings together unity among peoples and the preservation of peace, for the sustainability of programs, mainly aimed at promoting the well-being of the population.
In his turn, the director-general of the Institute for Citizenship 'MOSAIKO' in Angola, Júlio Candeeiro, recommended citizens to participate, positively, in the public policies established by the Government, for harmonious growth.
He added that each one must be competent and engaged in providing social and economic contributions aimed at improving living conditions in communities, for the consolidation of sustainable development.
