Luanda - The 3rd edition of the Luanda International Meeting, which is taking place at the Alvalade swimming pool in Luanda and at Ilha do Cabo, could lead the country's representatives to raise their standards for other competitions, the president of the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN), Ana Lima, said on Saturday.
Previewing the event that began in the capital, the FAN leader told ANGOP that her goal is to develop the skills of Angolan swimmers, as it is part of the preparation calendar for the current sports season.
Ana Lima, who was elected for the 2024/2028 term, called for more determination and commitment from local competitors to achieve success at the international event in Luanda and other events in the future.
The meeting, which aims to celebrate the 449th anniversary of the province of Luanda on January 25, will have the participation of more than 200 athletes.
In addition to pure swimming, the competition will continue on Sunday in Open Water and Triathlon, on the island of Luanda, in front of the Clube Naval, from 8 am to 1 pm. In the Open Water, five kilometers will be competed in absolute, in both sexes.
Swimmers in the categories of children, juniors, seniors and masters will compete in distances of 1.5 and 3 kilometers.
