Luanda – Angola´s national senior women's basketball team beat Zambia, 92-61, on Thursday in the third round game of the tournament which is being held in Bulawayo pavilion, Zimbabwe, to qualify for the FIBA Women's Afro basket 2023, thus recording their second victory.

In the match, played at the Arena pavilion in Bulawayo, the national team won at half time by 59-26.

 

In the second half, the team led by coach Jaime Covilhão expanded the advantage in the third period to 74-38. However, in the fourth and last quarter the pace slowed down, ending the match with 31 points difference.

 

The post Cristina Matiquite with eight rebounds, two assists and 23 points was the second best player of the match, surpassed by the Zambian Priscila Chella, who grabbed six rebounds, two assists and converted 24 pts.

The national teams started the tournament by losing 52-74 to Mozambique, but on Wednesday, in the second round, they beat the hosts Zimbabwe by 105-41.

 

On Friday (24), the two-time African champions again face Zambia, at 02h00 pm, in the first round of the second leg of the event. On Saturday (25) they will play Zimbabwe and on (26) Mozambique, in the last round.

 

The event will be played in two legs, in the round robin system, with the team that scores the most points over the six matches qualifying for the final qualifying round for Afrobasket 2023 to take place in Rwanda from 28 July to 6 August 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.

 

It will have 12 participating countries, with the other five coming out of the final qualifying round.
