Banga – Some 270 peasant families benefited, on Wednesday, in the municipality of Banga, northern Cuanza-Norte Province, from seeds to promote horticulture.
The seeds of cabbage, okra, kale, onion, carrot, tomato, among others, were distributed by the municipal administrator of Banga, Leopoldo dos Santos.
On the occasion, the official urged farmers to invest in increasing vegetable production in the region, with a weak tradition in this type of culture.
He highlighted that the investment will stop residents from traveling long distances looking for vegetables and turn the municipality into a large-scale producer.
The municipal director of agriculture, Lando Kimadiala, said that three cooperatives and sixteen peasant associations were also included.
The district has prepared 20 hectares for horticultural production in the current agricultural season, with the prospect of harvesting 60 tons of various products.
Last year, the municipality harvested 28 tons of vegetables, produced on nine hectares, with the participation of 903 farmers.
