Dundo - The governor of Lunda-Norte Province, Filomena Miza, reiterated on Friday the Government's commitment to paying special attention to vulnerable families, through actions aimed at mitigating the socioeconomic conditions of this group.
The governor reiterated this commitment during the end-of-year greetings ceremony, stressing that the Executive has been developing several actions, within the scope of social assistance, to minimize the problems that affect vulnerable families, guaranteeing free access to education and health services.
She reported that in 2024, through the Office of Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, 265 citizens, including people with disabilities, the elderly, orphans, widows and people with albinism, benefited from basic food baskets.
Regarding the means of compensation, he continued, crutches were given to 247 adults and 27 to children, 81 wheelchairs, making a total of 355 beneficiaries. On the other hand, he called on society's involvement in the fight against domestic violence and violence against children.
He stated that within the scope of the program for the protection and promotion of children's rights, the Provincial Service of the National Children's Institute registered 207 cases of violence against children.
He added that in 2024, 152 cases of domestic violence were registered, with a greater emphasis on paternity denial, with 81 cases.
He highlighted that for 2025, the main challenges will be to address the lack of family counseling, children's and Community Education centers, orphanages, as well as the creation and legalization of the Association for Women with Disabilities.
The government's priorities include updating the Child Protection Commission and holding Provincial and Municipal Conferences on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Albinism.
