Luanda - On Friday, Angolan Airlines officially closed its operations at the Domestic Terminal (TVD), located at the International Airport 4 de Fevereiro, which at the time was operating five interprovincial flights.

Between departures and arrivals on January 31, the national flag carrier made a total of nine internal connections, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., from Luanda to five destinations and vice versa, transporting at least a thousand passengers of different nationalities.

At the beginning of the night, the last two flights departed for the cities of Lubango (Huíla) and Catumbela (Benguela), from where the planes returned to Luanda at 9 p.m., marking the end of the maneuvers at this airport, where it operated for about 69 years.

To symbolize the farewell to the terminal, the company offered "gifts" to all the passengers of the last two flights, especially those who went to Catumbela and Lubango, as well as those who came from these cities.

ANGOP noted at 08:30 pm the departure of 120 passengers to Catumbela, on board the aircraft Airbaus A220, while 74 people traveled to Lubango on board the aircraft Dush8-400 D2-TFF, involved in a prestigious ceremony by the administrators of TAAG.

Speaking to the press, TAAG's Commercial Administrator, Miguel Carneiro, said that as of February 1, 2025, TAAG will operate all its domestic destinations from the newly opened António Agostinho Neto Airport in the province of Icolo e Bengo.

"The country of 1956 is not the country of 2025. The population has grown and the 4 de Fevereiro airport has become small in terms of infrastructure, which limits our operations, as there are no longer conditions to accommodate our passengers when boarding and disembarking. ", he said.

António Agostinho Neto airport, located in the neighboring province of Icole e Bengo, the interlocutor continued, is state-of-the-art and has allowed the company to carry out more efficient, safe and comfortable operations since the last quarter of 2024.

He emphasized that although the connection with Luanda's TVD only ended this Friday, TAAG already operates most of the interprovincial destinations from António Agostinho Neto International Airport.

Carneiro guaranteed that by March 29, the company will remove all the planes that make domestic trips, reserving the second phase for the transfer of international planes.

He admitted that passengers are reacting with some anxiety, but that in time they will realize that they are better accommodated and valued, judging by the modern infrastructure and sophisticated services available.

TAAG has been operating for over 86 years and is the leading company in the Angolan aviation market, recognized worldwide, with sustained growth, flying to 12 domestic and 11 international destinations.

It currently has a fleet of 23 aircraft, with models Dash 8-Q400 (6 aircraft), Boeing 737-700 (7), Boeing 777-200 (3), Boeing 777-300 (5), an A220-300 and a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, received on Thursday, January 30, from the North American manufacturer.FUZI/DAN/AMP
