Luanda - The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos, has highlighted the support member states of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) have provided for a healthy political and military cooperation.
The Angolan minister made this statement during the 23rd meeting of ministers of National Defense or equivalent from the member states of the CPLP held in Malabo, Guiné Equatorial, a mechanism that has been under Angolan presidency since May 30, 2023.
João Ernesto dos Santos highlighted some of the country's actions to accomplish its tasks, underlining that due to its calm and stable political-military situation, it has favorable conditions for carrying out various social and economic projects, especially the General Population and Housing Census, and political-diplomatic actions for Peace and Stability in Africa.
Among these actions, the high ranking officer highlighted actions aimed at pacifying the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a fact that has led Angolan President João Lourenço, as mediator in the conflict between the DRC and Rwanda, to increasingly commit himself to developing a set of initiatives to bring these neighboring countries closer together to defuse the political and diplomatic tensions.
During the meeting, Colonel Fabien Sanha (Guinea Bissau) was also appointed director of the CPLP's Center for Strategic Analysis (CAE) for a three-year term 2025-2027, replacing Armindo Sá Nogueira Miranda (Mozambique).
At the event, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos, handed over the chairmanship of the body to his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe, Jorge Amado.
