Luanda - The governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, said on Thursday in Luanda that the Casa do Kwanza is the culmination of the modernization of the institution's management of circulating funds, allowing it to increase the capacity and speed of service to commercial banks.
The governor, who was speaking at the inauguration of the infrastructure by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, also said that it increases the capacity for storage and processing of banknotes and coins, as well as reducing human intervention in cash handling.
The Casa do Kwanza is a more modern and larger structure than the one we had before," he pointed out.
He also pointed out that, according to its Organic Law, the BNA is the issuing bank with exclusive rights to issue banknotes and coins, and is therefore the manager of the circulating medium and responsible for the circulation of banknotes and coins, which are legal tender in the country.
To operationalize this task, he said, in addition to the issuing and treasury departments, the BNA's regional delegations and the securities depositories operating on its behalf are also involved.
The infrastructure is equipped to consolidate the bank's business continuity strategy, with housing and other appropriate means to continue critical activities in the event of unforeseen events," he said. He said that the institution has implemented a comprehensive modernization program for the execution of the cash management function.
According to the governor, the infrastructure will not only serve as a place to manage the rolling stock, but also as a learning center for environmental protection, promoting a model of responsible development.
Casa do Kwanza
This is a modern BNA facility designed to meet the growing demand for cash due to the demographic growth registered in recent years.
With Casa do Kwanza, the BNA has a modern facility that will facilitate cash needs throughout the country.
It has five strong rooms such as Pallets, Boxes, Precious Metals, Gold and Transition, all fully automated and equipped with shelves and robots for packaging, moving and storing currency.
The facility also includes Automatic Banknote Processing Rooms, Manual Banknote Processing Rooms and Metal Coin Processing Rooms.
The Automatic Banknote Processing Room, for example, has the capacity to process approximately 33 banknotes per second per machine, for a total of more than 4 million banknotes per day. It is also equipped with sensors to detect counterfeit banknotes.
The project also includes the areas of destruction of bad banknotes, service for commercial banks and reception of cash from the manufacturer.
